Free Up More of Your Time
What would you do with an extra hour or two each week?
Maybe work on a new project, earn more money... or better yet, spend more time with your family and friends?
I've been saving myself time every single day using a favorite tool. It helps eliminate any repetitive tasks that I might do during that day on the computer. I am referring to using a "macro" program. This is a program that lets you specify a series of small tasks to do instantly with a shortcut key or button press.
A good example is one I use dozens of times a day. It dawned on me that I was constantly typing in:
Best wishes,
Tim Kerber
Now, I simply type in: ==bw (the bw stands for best wishes so I can easily remember it). When my computer sees ==bw, it instantly pastes in that phrase.
Now the time saved on that one phrase is not that big of a deal. I have many different phrases "macroed" such as my "thank you for writing", "pricing questions", "frequently asked questions", "can I pay you via paypal?" questions and many more. They do add up to time saved from having to continously retype them out. I now pay attention to any phrases that I use repeatedly and then create an easy to remember macro.
Macros can do much more than just type out frequently used replies however. It can also run programs at times you indicated for example.
Want a sales report run everyday just prior to you starting in the morning? A good macro program can record the steps necessary and display those results at the precise time you set it up to do that. It "remembers" those steps involved and will do it on a schedule.
Its hard to explain how helpful it can be. Only after using it for a period of time will you discover a wide variety of uses to save you a few minutes here and there.
Those minutes saved really add up over time.
Here are some macro programs. Some free, the others inexpensive:
MacroExpress is the one I've been using for years (PC): www.macroexpress.com
ShortKeys has a free lite version (PC): www.shortkeys.com/lite.htm
Keyboard Maestro for Mac: www.keyboardmaestro.com/main
iKey for Mac: www.scriptsoftware.com
